Academics
At St. Andrew’s, we emphasize the development of higher-order thinking skills in our children. Our hands-on learning approach to education begins in Primer with the expansion of fine and gross motor skills and continues through 8th grade with creative problem solving embedded in the curriculum.

academics1Small class size combined with an excellent staff provide for the attention and instruction needed to bring out the very best in each student. Students are encouraged to be independent thinkers, cooperative learners, and problem solvers. Each child's strengths and unique abilities are celebrated in the classroom and throughout the School.

Our faculty members work together closely to ensure our curriculum builds appropriately over the grade levels. We teach children to trust in themselves, and we foster the growth of their self esteem and self confidence – preparing them to live and contribute in a world that will be vastly changed by the time they reach adulthood.

In the elementary grades, the curriculum focuses on the acquisition of exceptional reading, grammar, spelling, and math skills. Spanish, choral music, art, and computer technology add breadth, as well as opportunities for each child to explore their own unique talents. These enhanced offerings, combined with the core classes of Math, Language Arts, Reading, Social Studies, Science and Physical Education ensure an environment that produces students proficient in the basics, while also instilling a dedication to life long learning.

academics2The middle school curriculum is designed to transition students from self-contained elementary classroom to the departmental structure of a college-preparatory high school program. We help students progress from childhood to young adulthood by providing essential skills through high interest academic content and experiential, hands-on learning.

Central to the middle school curriculum are the core courses of Communication Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Spanish. Enrichment courses include Visual Arts, Computer Technology and Physical Education as well as a choice of Music or Orchestra. An advisory program, Chapel, class trips, and service learning projects provide opportunities for faculty to mentor and encourage an awareness of the needs of others and an acceptance of personal responsibility.
