The stated educational philosophy of the School says that “Every student deserves the opportunity and the encouragement to acquire the skills and values necessary to become an adaptable and contributing citizen in an ever-changing, ever-challenging world.”
However, in order to understand how that philosophy is brought to life it is necessary to break apart the statement and get at the real meaning of the words included.
Opportunity to acquire skills – St. Andrew’s provides children with the tools – excellent teachers; small class size; an understanding of God’s love; a nurturing environment; and outstanding curriculum, facilities, and programs – to help ensure future success. The School also provides students with training in a wide variety of academic disciplines and life skills. St. Andrew’s believes that education should be well-rounded so music, art, language and technology are introduced very early on.
Opportunity to acquire values – St. Andrew’s ensures that values are not only taught but also modeled by our staff and students. Behavioral standards of trust, kindness, and respect are introduced at the earliest age and are enforced and strengthened as students mature.
Encouragement is provided through small class size, best in class faculty who love where they are and what they do, and a nurturing environment that allows teachers to teach to their students needs and abilities.
The ability for our students to be contributing members of society – comes not only from their academic prowess but also from the emphasis placed upon giving back to the community through service and leadership.
Preparing youth to be adaptable and contributing members of society requires that we fill them with confidence and compassion – the confidence to believe that they can overcome obstacles and solve problems and the compassion to believe that they are blessed with gifts and that it is their responsibility to be good stewards of those blessings. There is also a focus on teaching children to think critically, to explore and question. This approach, when applied not only to studies but also to life and the larger global community helps students to be more adaptable as they grow and mature.
