2010 Seniors Return for the Blessing of the Graduates

sm_1Remember when? That was a common phrase as this year’s graduating high school seniors returned to St. Andrew’s for the wonderful tradition of The Blessing of the Graduates. As in years past, students who spent their formative years here at St. Andrew’s returned to worship together as a class one last time and to visit with old friends and teachers.

The chapel service was lovely and featured music by Alumni Bailey Smith. Mother Jo reminded these fine young adults that God has given them many wonderful gifts and urged them to remember who they are and stay true to themselves as they venture into the world.

Teachers also had words of wisdom for their past students as well as fond memories and funny stories. But of course, the highlight of the night was the listening to the graduates. They spoke of what they loved about St. Andrew’s, the things they will always remember, and their plans for the future.

Brian Anthone, who is off to film school at the University of Washington said that St. Andrew’s taught him the importance of being passionate and he shared that his 8th grade graduation from St. Andrew’s was more meaningful to him than this graduation from high school. He believes that it is because of the bonds he formed sm_5here with teachers and his fellow students. Ana Carrizo spoke of the confidence that St. Andrew’s instilled in her and how it has helped her grow and meet the challenges of high school. Ana will be attending Baylor in the fall. Theresa Rowley said that she thinks the most amazing thing about St. Andrew’s is that “Everyone who went here is successful. Whether in science class, as a musician or athlete, we have all achieved success”. Theresa will be attending the Oklahoma City University. Other alumni shared favorite memories – class trips often topping the “Best of Times” list.

It was a wonderful evening and most certainly one that will enhance the already strong bonds that these youngsters share. Congratulations to the Seniors of 2010. Best of luck. We know you will make us proud!
