Action Packed Spring Sports Season

The Spring Sports Season here at St. Andrew’s has been full of fun and success. Over the last several years, the School has worked hard to expand the athletic opportunities available during the Spring. In addition to Golf, students now have the chance to participate in track and in a fitness training program. And the Golf Program has grown to include 5th graders as well as middle school students.

In April, the St. Andrew’s Episcopal School Middle School Track Team competed with nine other schools in the Groom Relays (Groom, Texas). Our top finish was the girls’ 800 meter relay with a time of 2:12 (second place). The team consisted of Marley Philips, Blaithin Haddad, Allie Astuto, and Georgia Martin.

The Middle School Golf Team made top honors throughout the season. At the Holy Cross Golf Invitational, the exceptional play of the girls’ team won them first place by a margin of six strokes. Alexa Valdez also received a medal for shooting the third best score in the entire tournament. The boys’ team performed great as well, getting fourth place out of nine teams. At the San Jacinto Golf Invitational, the boys beat their original score by twenty-four strokes to take third place out of nine teams and the girls had another first place finish. This boy’s team consisted of Preston Howard, Charlie Meyer, Tate Smith, Grant Hughes, and Ben Juba and the girl’s team consisted of Victoria Miles, Alexa Valdez, Allie Astuto, Maddie Jensen, and Michika Tayama. Still to come is the District Tournament and a fun school tournament that will close out the season.

The 5th Grade Bronco Golf program participants played their annual golf tournament at Preston West Golf Course. Participants included Amrit Banwait, Sara Bartel, Patrick Ellis, Dylan Gilbert, Randall Heck, Spencer Howard, Natalie Jarrous, Preston Moore, Hunter Puckett, and Tripp Rowley. The winner of the tournament was Dylan Gilbert, who shot a 28, followed by Randal Heck, who shot a 34. There was a tie for third place (35) between Hunter Puckett and Spencer Howard. We will be looking for great things to happen on the golf course as these young Broncos play in both summer tournaments and for the school team next year!

In addition to golf and track, many of our middle school students have been participating in the Bronco Fit Program. This new athletic opportunity was started last year in an effort to better prepare all students to live a healthy and active life as well as to improve the overall conditioning of individuals already participating in sports.
