Saahil Mehta, Named Top 8th Grader at Redional Mathcounts Competition |
St. Andrew’s was well represented at the TAME Mathcounts Competition on Saturday, Feb. 21st. Saahil Mehta was named the Top 8th Grader of the region, Regional Countdown Winner, Highest Scoring Individual of the competition and Top St. Andrew’s Mathlete.
Saahil will now go on to represent St. Andrew’s and the entire Panhandle region in the State MATHCOUNTS Competition in Austin on March 28th. Saahil was just one of several St. Andrew’s MATHCOUNTS team members, all of whom are to be commended not only for competing, but also for their time and hard work in preparing for the competition. Team members were:

Individuals: Saahil Mehta, Lauren Pronger, Tate Smith, Thomas Britt, & Andrew Villa.
MATHCOUNTS(r) is a national math enrichment, coaching and competition program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement through grassroots involvement in every U.S. state and territory. The mission of MATHCOUNTS is to increase enthusiasm for and enhance achievement in middle school mathematics throughout the United States.
Each year, approximately 100,000 students from more than 6,000 schools participate in the Competition Program at the school level with winners advancing to the regional and state levels. The top four students in each state compete then move on to compete in the National Competition.
Mathletes® race to answer such questions as, “The Norman High School Math Club has twice as many male members as female members. Twenty percent of the male members and thirty percent of the female members participated in a math contest. What fraction of those members participating in the math contest were female? Express your answer in a common fraction. (Answer 3/7)
St. Andrew’s was one of several local teams competing in the event. Other teams were from Austin, Bonham, Crockett, DeZavalla, Fannin, Holy Cross, and Sam Houston Schools.
