New Technology Takes Hold at St. Andrew’s

Look around the building this year and you will see evidence of new technology taking hold – from the office, to the students, to the teachers. . The upgrades in technology assist in making the school's infrastructure more efficient and effective and will have real benefits for students, teachers and parents. All of the upgrades will support the School’s goal of improving the way in which we use technology in order to provide the best possible educational experience possible.

SAES’s top three technology advancements this summer:

1. A new school management software program
2. Laptop computers for all teachers
3. Classroom Technology

School Management Software

St. Andrew’s has implemented a new school management system called RENWEB which will allow us to better maintain and update student, parent, and organizational data. It will, through the use of a secure online web page, create a one-stop spot for parents to gain access to pertinent information about everything from lunch menus to homework to class trips. It will also enable more timely access to student progress and reporting.

The new system will also help streamline communications from an administrative perspective. Communications to parents will now be more timely, more cost effective and more environmentally friendly.

Laptop Computers for Teachers

Thanks to the generosity of the Parents’ Auxiliary, all teachers now have laptop computers. The laptops are part of the larger technology push and they will help facilitate teacher interaction with the new Renweb system. Given that grade books, scheduling, and more are soon to be online – allowing the teachers increased flexibility in how, when and where they access our new system is critical to its success. This increased mobility will allow teachers to work from their classroom, teacher workroom, library or home.

Classroom Technology

As part of the Legacy Campaign, St. Andrew’s purchased several document cameras and interactive classroom learning systems. The new technologies were so popular with both students and teachers – that we have acquired several more. These tools enhance the depth and dimension of what and how we teach. Document cameras allow an instructor to capture and show on screen a detailed image – perhaps a painting for art class or an illustration of a complex machine for science. The interactive learning systems allow teachers to instantly track individual and group mastery of different subject matters. For example, a teacher may ask a question about geometry. The students, using their hand held devices, each answer individually. The teacher can then track the number of correct and incorrect answers across the room.

These are only a few of the more obvious technological enhancements we are making at St. Andrew’s. Unseen but equally important are new databases, updated software, and an expanded wireless network. These enhancements represent real progress in meeting the goals and objectives set forth by our Board of Trustees in its most recent 5 year strategic plan. We are excited by our progress and are looking forward to even more advances in the months to come.
